Pam Seay talked on Amendment #5 “State Courts: Creates Senate confirmation for Supreme Court nominees and more legislative oversight over judicial rules”.

INTRODUCTIONS:

Our president introduced the following officials:  State Committee Woman, Jane Sturges; Airport Authority Commissioners, Kathleen Coppola, Don Lee, Pam Seay; Chairman Executive Committee, Bill Folchi; Clerk of the Circuit Court, Barbara Scott.

Candidates:  County Commissioner, District 1, Ken Doherty; Airport Authority, District 1, Pamella Seay, Sean Wilson, and District 3 Paul Andrews; Clerk of the Circuit Court, Barbara Scott.

A thank you goes out to all of you that attended this luncheon.

Jane Sturges talked on needing more volunteers who are interested in forwarding the Romney-Ryan Campaign.  Asking who will you vote for, Romney or Obama? Connie Mack signs were brought in and the Romney signs will be in, hopefully, by the 24th of this month.  Many, many people are coming in for bumper stickers and this is a good sign.  Hours to volunteer are from 10am to 2pm or from 2pm or 4pm to 6pm.   Saturday Headquarter hours are 9am to 9pm and on Sundays the Headquarters is open from 12pm to 9pm.  Please come in and volunteer a few hours to make phone calls.   Dianne Velde talked on her experience of working at the Republican Headquarters.  It was enjoyable and hopes many more will sign up to help.  It’s really an education.

Announcements:  Gene Murtha gave a report on the rally.   Despite all the plans that were made and the number of sponsors, the rally on October 7th at the Charlotte Harbor Event Center was cancelled.  Speakers were re-directed and it was an executive decision not to have it.  Gene did want to thank everyone for helping organize this event as it was greatly appreciated.

Bill Folchi announced the Golf Scramble on October 20th is still needing sponsors and foursomes.  Please contact him or go to our website if you are interested.

Nominating Committee – Dianne will be contacting members as there are several offices that need to be filled come January 2013.

Also would like to get some feedback on a name change and any suggestions that members may have on this and to think on this.

GUEST SPEAKERS:

Bill Abbatematteo commented on the fact that for the last four or five months there were more Democrats being registered than Republicans here in Florida.  So if you can help at the Headquarters please do so.  Florida is an important state.

Bill announced the guest speakers and gave each 5 minutes to talk.

Sean Wilson – Airport Authority – District 1

Has spent the last 10 years working in development.  The airport is a business.  The airport development parallels what he has done.  He worked for Bonita Bay one of the largest developers in Florida before it was bought out.  He wants to focus on marketing.  The Airport is a good product but in the last 10-12 years there has been little expansion.  If you drive around the Commerce Center you cannot be happy with what you see.    Feels there are more cows in the field than businesses.  He wants to change this and bring more businesses into the Commerce Park.  He wants to see more focus on marketing and on marketing accountability.

Pam Seay – Airport Authority – District 1 – Running for Re-election.

In office since 1996 and feels that in this time frame has done a pretty good job.  Points out that there are limitations and requirements that have to be followed.   There are three points:  1. General Aviation – which are planes that are owned by individuals as well as businesses which bring people to Charlotte County.  2.  Commercial Park which is a legislative fiat that is to support the airport.  And that it is not permitted to market and airline.  3.  Commercial which is Alegent Airlines which is the best.  Points out that over 300,000 people have used this airport and this translates to dollars which stays in the County.

One of the answered questions was on the flights going over homes.    These are only directed by the Air Traffic Controller at the airport or from the Fort Myers Traffic Controller.  Ideal is not to fly over homes in PGI or Burnt Store.  But it will happen.

ADJOURNMENT

The meeting was adjourned at 1pm

50/50 winner was Gene Murtha $20.
